A group of people gather for a nice dinner in a representative London townhouse. Among the guests we find a cocaine-crazed but well-dressed banker, an incurable cynic and a German aroma therapist. It starts as a celebration of the hostess’ promotion but soon everything escalates into a cavalcade of surprises and revelations. Sally Potter’s (Orlando) new film leaves actors like Cillian Murphy, Patricia Clarkson, Timothy Spall, Emily Mortimer and Bruno Ganz plenty of room to shine. Potter has with The Party created a short, intense and highly entertaining chamber piece filled with black humour.
